CHESAPEAKE CARE CLINIC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1992 with a rich history of compassion and commitment for over 29 years.
The clinic was initially run by volunteer health care professionals who recognized a need and made a commitment to fulfill it. The demand for affordable health care grew and so a core staff was added to support the volunteer services. But it is the clinic’s network of more than 250 licensed medical and dental and administrative volunteers who make it possible to provide consistent, patient focused care to so many underserved Hampton Roads individuals. Last year, volunteers donated more than 8,00 hours valued over $229,000. Our volunteer staff includes physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, hygienists, pharmacists, nurses and medical assistants. Volunteers also provide administrative support, maintain the building and grounds, provide meals for volunteers, conduct specific projects, shop for supplies, complete mailings and more.
Medical and dental care are basic needs that are not affordable and accessible to everyone so we strive to bridge the gap in healthcare by providing medical and dental care to the underinsured. Even with Medicaid expansion and the Affordable Care Act, there is still a massive gap in healthcare coverage. In Virginia, many people are asset limited, income constrained, and employed but cannot afford health insurance. Of these people, 44% of them report cost prevents them from getting the health care they need. There are estimated 77,000 uninsured adults in Hampton Roads alone.
